I am currently in a business apprenticeship program called Praxis. I will create and build a month-long project as part of the program. I have chosen to focus my project on marketing and advertisement metrics. I plan on also experimenting with different advertisement platforms and recording the metrics for those ads.
This week, I’m focusing on learning SEO basics and how to utilize them. Creating my own Etsy shop has been an exciting learning experience for me but one aspect of my project that may need some attention is my use of SEO. SEO is essential in driving customer traffic to my shop and ensuring that my website has a high ranking.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is a crucial digital marketing strategy businesses use to increase their online presence and drive website traffic. Learning about SEO may seem difficult, but learning the basics doesn’t have to be. I'll review the fundamentals of SEO and its basic functions in this blog post.
What is SEO?
Whenever you google something, how do the top results get there? Is it all random? Well, the answer is that search engine results are definitely not random. The results are from the careful utilization of SEO.
SEO stands for “search engine optimization” and can be used to optimize organic searches for a company or website. SEO aims to expand the visibility in online searches and clicks of a company or website. Utilizing SEO can increase visibility and drive customer traffic to the website.
There are many ways to use SEO and drive traffic to your site. SEO is all based on search engine rankings. These elements can include title tags, keywords, image tags, internal link structure, and inbound links. Search engines can also look at site structure and visitor behavior.
On-page and off-page SEO
Another important factor in SEO is on-page and off-page.
On-page SEO is improving the text and organizational elements of the individual web pages on your website. The keywords you use in your page titles, headers, the graphics of your site, and internal links are part of on-page SEO. On-page SEO is about making sure your website contains excellent, pertinent content that responds to user search queries and offers a positive user experience.
Off-page SEO refers to the enhancement of extraneous elements, such as backlinks, social media signals, and brand mentions. Getting mentions on other sites, and creating compelling content that encourages social media shares and interaction is all a part of utilizing off-page SEO.
How to utilize keywords and backlinks
An essential part of SEO is the utilization of certain keywords. These keywords ensure that your site will pop up in web searches. Keyword research starts with picking a list of words and phrases relevant to your business. These words and phrases should be directly correlated with the product or business so that customers are more likely to search for that keyword.
Backlinks are links to your site on other sites. A great way to get backlinks is to get your site featured on other sites. The more reputable the site that links back to you, the better the site rankings will be. Backlinks help raise the visibility and ranking of your site.
Here are some ways to boost on-page and off-page SEO:
